Weekly Smorgasbord

I don't have a whole lot of links from last week- I'm trying to limit my blog reading since it's "media month" and I'm guessing I'll have even fewer this week. Here they are:

"It is that passion and conviction that this hymn speaks of—and what the United Methodist Church is largely lacking today. In far too many of our churches a sedate presence has replaced the "shouting" of vibrant, soul-stirring worship."

I'm realizing more and more how true this is :(

I think it might benefit us to create a little Summer schedule.

"Adrianne Shapira, retail analyst at Goldman Sachs, said Target has confused its shoppers by emphasizing food and low prices at the expense of its cool image."

    Interesting.

"While that is certainly true -- debates over homosexuality and Scripture have broken out every four years at the church's governing General Conference since 1972 -- it downplays the extent to which some in the denomination see these fights trending in the opposite direction from the rest of mainline Protestantism...By some measures, the United Methodist Church is becoming more theologically conservative." "But this relative conservatism is partially a product of inclusion: roughly 3.5 million United Methodists now live outside the United States, mostly in Africa. Over 1 million live in the Democratic Republic of Congo alone. The African Methodists are orthodox in faith and morals, and are active participants in the denomination's governing process."
    Enjoy!
